Welcome to New Newton!
This school year, KTH Library have a project with the aim to investigate how a new study environment can be co-created with students. Our ambition is that what we learn about the co-creation process can be applied also to other rooms and areas in the library, thus making it possible to create a library that fulfills the students’ needs.
During the autumn semester, students had the opportunity to co-create a new collaborative working environment in Newton, a study room in the main library. By voting and leaving comments, students helped deciding what the room should be used for, and how it should be equipped.
What is New Newton?
It’s an environment for collaborative studies, available for everyone at KTH, and also bookable for learning activities.
Our aim
To create a room where students can discuss and work together. Where the furniture facilitates collaboration by being flexible and easy to move around. Where students can choose if they work standing up or sitting down. Where there are plenty of electrical sockets to charge a laptop or a phone, and where it’s easy to connect a computer to a big screen.
So, what’s new?
It’s been equipped with 15 new softer office chairs, 2 whiteboards on wheels and 3 stability balls to sit on. All these have been purchased as a direct result of the voting and the comments made by students. We’re still working on improving the sockets and other electrical appliances, and hopefully soon the tables will be flexible in both terms of height and their ability to be moved around in the room.
