Abstract: We consider a multiuser multiple input multiple output communication system, and investigate both single cell and multicell deployments assuming Rayleigh and Rician fading conditions. We study the impact of data and pilot power setting on the system performance in terms of the mean squared error (MSE) of the uplink received data symbols. We extend previously proposed power control algorithms by assigning pilot sequences to mobile stations using a game theoretic approach. Simulation results indicate that the combined power control and pilot sequence assignment algorithm can mitigate the well-known pilot contamination problem, and achieves good results in terms of MSE.
