UppASD Autumn School 2022
Modelling atomistic spin-dynamics using UppASD
The PDC Center for High Performance Computing and the Department of Applied Physics at KTH, along with the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University, invite you to a three-day school on modelling of atomistic spin dynamics, including an overview of the physics background, and tutorials for using the UppASD program to simulate magnetisation dynamics as modelled by the atomistic- and multi-scale versions of the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation. The school will also describe how to simulate coupled magnetisation and lattice vibration dynamics as modelled by spin-lattice dynamics.
Time: Tue 2022-10-11 09.00 - Thu 2022-10-13 17.00
Location: KTH Royal Institute of Technology main campus, Stockholm
Language: English
Who can attend
Interested students and researchers (with academic or industrial/commercial backgrounds) from anywhere in the world are welcome to apply to attend the course.
What you will learn
This course provides the skills needed to perform modelling with atomistic spin dynamics and spin-lattice dynamics using the UppASD program ( github.com/UppASD/UppASD ).
The course consists of both lectures and guided hands-on lab sessions.
- Theory lectures: magnetism, spin dynamics
- Tutorial: UppASD Basics
- Tutorial: Switching ferromagnets & damping, ultrafast dynamics
- Tutorial: Determination of Tc & Phase diagrams
- Tutorial: Magnon spectra & Noncollinear magnetism
- Tutorial: Spin-lattice dynamics
Requirements
The course is suitable for researchers and graduate students who are interested in magnetization dynamics in condensed matter physics.
Participants need to bring a laptop for participating in the lab exercises.
Registration
The registration form is available at axacoair.se/go?rEswKg2P .
The deadline for registering is the 29th of September 2022.
Fees
The participation fee for the school is 2000 SEK.

Accommodation
You will need to make your own arrangements for accommodation.
Some options for accommodation in Stockholm
- Online accommodation companies (for example, booking.com , airbnb or www.stugknuten.com/en ) may have some cheap accommodation available in the Stockholm area.
- Youth hostels can provide inexpensive accommodation. There are two main organizations for youth hostels in Sweden: Svenska Turistföreningen (which has some information available in English) and Svenska Vandrarhem i Förening (only in Swedish).
- The Stockholm Visitor's Board also provides information about accommodation.
