EffiGears

Developing a simulation methodology for agile electric drivetrain development, supporting the Industrialisation of surface treatment for gears.

Background

Aims and objectives

The goal is to industrialise a surface treatment for gears. The treatment targets electric vehicle transmissions to maximise driving range (i.e., lower the gear losses).

Project plan

Initial tests have shown promising results. My contribution is mainly experimental as part of developing a simulation methodology for agile electric drivetrain development. Surface topography measurements before and after efficiency testing of all gears is a crucial input for building and validating the simulation model.

Applied interdisciplinarity

We are all contributing to the same goal of speeding up electrification. From engineers leading the novel field of mechano-chemical surface treatments and SMEs are developing high precision production processes (collaborations with OEMs) to experts in drivetrain design (KTH & LTH), explaining phenomena and building computer simulation tools for agile drivetrain development.
