Communication in STEM

Research in communication in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) examines the communication skills needed by architects, engineers, and scientists to meet the challenges of their studies and work.

The research field

The Communication in STEM research group examines the communication skills needed by architects, engineers, and scientists to meet the challenges of their studies and work. The group comprises Language and Communication teachers and researchers in Learning, and we take inspiration from domains such as Rhetoric, Language for Specific Purposes (LSP), Technical Communication, and Intercultural Communication. Much of our work is practice based and focused on the most effective ways of teaching and learning STEM-specific language and communication skills. We aim to promote linguistic diversity in academia and in the workplace. To this end, we work in a range of languages and consider languages other than English for STEM-related academic and professional purposes.
