BIC Modules
The BIC programme is divided into four modules stretching from October 2024 until May 2025. Learn more about each module here.
Module I: Understanding innovation and innovation capabilities
Module I of the programme infuses participants with foundational knowledge about innovation addressing societal challenges. By combining theoretical content with practical exercises and discussions, it prepares public sector representatives to conceptualise innovation within their unique contexts and identify what capabilities are essential to develop.
The purpose of Module I is to build an understanding of what 'innovation' and 'innovation capabilities' signify within the participants' own contexts and to equip participants with methods to evaluate needs and identify actions pertaining to innovation and innovation capabilities, specifically when addressing societal challenges.
Module II: Co-creating to address societal challenges
Module II delves into Challenge Driven Education and Innovation (CDE&I) as a tool for addressing societal challenges. It educates participants on the dynamics of innovation within CDE frameworks, fostering an understanding of how these principles can be applied to real-world issues.
Module II aims to discuss approaches and tools for addressing societal challenges and educate participants on the role of innovation while collaboratively and cross-sectorial working together to identify and address local challenges that are linked to global challenges.
Module III: Stakeholder engagement
In Module III, the focus is on the public sector's pivotal role in CDE&I. Participants engage with and learn from organizations that have previously integrated CDE, as well as visit academic institutions that administer CDE courses. This module focuses on the practical aspects of CDE, highlighting both challenges and opportunities.
The purpose of Module III is for the participants to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a stakeholder in Challenge Driven Education, to experience engaging in CDE to support innovation and learning, and to expand their network with additional external stakeholders.
Module IV: Managing innovation and leading for the future
Finally, Module IV emphasizes the public sector's engagement in the innovation ecosystem. It addresses the diffusion and adoption of innovations, collaborative innovation using back-casting and future-oriented methods to frame the impact. The programme culminates with participants presenting their plans to leverage CDE for societal impact, outlining their roles and strategies for fostering innovation within their respective organisations.
Module IV aims to teach the participants how public organisations and stakeholders can collaborate to foster an innovation ecosystem, including using design methods and developing an action plan for building innovation capability in organisations.
