Project description

The work will be performed in collaboration with the dog unit of the Swedish police in Karlsborg. The research project concerns development of the fundamental understanding of search dogs’ perception of scent. Substances of importance for search dogs’ detection of different scents will be mapped, and odour profiles described chemically to facilitate efficient science-based dog training. Two-dimensional gas chromatography with mass spectrometry will be used in combination with AI and machine learning to create databases and to correlate results from dog searches with chemical composition. Thermal desorption will be an important part of sample preparation.

Qualifications

Experience of and competence within analysis using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) including data analysis and handling. Two dimensional GCMS is especially important for the project.

Skills in sample handling and sample preparation for GCMS analysis, such as head space sampling and thermal desorption.

Practical experience of setting up experimental equipment etc is qualifying. Also experience and knowledge in machine learning for GCMS analysis is qualifying.
