The recruitment process for positions at KTH
The recruitment process for positions at KTH – from application to employment decision.
About the recruitment process
Once the application period for a vacant position has ended, we review all submitted applications and make a selection based on the qualifications specified in the job advertisement. If you are among those who best meet the qualifications, you will be invited to a first interview.
During the job interview, you will usually meet with a recruiting manager and/or someone from HR. You will need to bring a valid ID to the interview ( visit intra.kth.se for further information about valid ID ). If you are one of our final candidates, we will request references.
Everyone who has applied for a position at KTH receives feedback. If you have been to an interview, we usually contact you by phone; otherwise, you will receive a message via e-mail. If you are not selected to proceed in the recruitment process, you are always welcome to create a job subscription and monitor the areas you are interested in.
The recruitment process for teaching positions follows the same principles but includes different steps and procedures.
How KTH ensures a fair recruitment process
The recruitment process must be characterized by impartiality, objectivity, and fairness. As a public authority, KTH is obligated to recruit in accordance with The Public Employment Act The Public Employment Act (riksdagen.se - in Swedish)
The Act states that all decisions regarding public employment must be based on objective grounds, such as merit and competence.
Merit refers to experience gained through previous employment within the public sector, while competence relates to the factors that influence a candidate’s suitability for the position. All relevant experience should be considered within the scope of competence. According to the Public Employment Act, competence must be given primary consideration.

Competency-based recruitment
At KTH, we apply a competency-based recruitment process. This means that interview questions are based on the qualities and abilities specified in the job advertisement. During the interview, you will be asked to describe situations you have experienced in the past and provide concrete examples based on them. You can prepare by reflecting on situations from your previous jobs where you successfully have used the qualities, abilities, and experiences requested in the advertisement.
At KTH, we are committed to an objective recruitment process. Therefore, we ask questions that are relevant to the specific requirements for the position. As part of the overall assessment, you may also be asked to complete one or more web-based occupational psychological tests.
Position subject to security clearance
All employers engaged in security-sensitive activities are subject to the Protective Security Act (2018:585) and the Protective Security Ordinance (2021:955). It may happen that a position at KTH is classified as being security-sensitive. If this applies to the position in question, a security clearance will be conducted in accordance with the Protective Security Act, provided the applicant gives their consent. In such cases, employment is conditional upon the applicant being approved after the security clearance is done.
