Sustainability objectives

KTH's collaboration, research, and innovations contribute to sustainable development, gender equality and equal opportunities, and climate transition and exert an increased, clear impact on society.

Sub-targets to be achieved by the end of 2025 at the latest

3.1 KTH's target groups know, perceive and experience that KTH is a leading technical university for sustainable development and climate transition and associates KTH's brand with sustainable development and climate transition.

3.2 KTH ranks high in the reputation, cooperation, and utilization parts of relevant rankings where sustainable development and climate transition are assessed.

3.3 KTH's capacity-building activities in developing countries in support of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals have increased (base year 2020).

Sub-targets to be achieved by the end of 2022 at the latest

3.4 KTH collaborates with partners who contribute to sustainable development, gender equality and equal opportunities, and who participate in reducing climate impact.

3.5 KTH's agreements and collaborations with strategic partners and other partnerships have integrated sustainable development, gender equality and equal opportunities, and climate issues, and KTH pursues the issues within these collaborations.

3.6 KTH's campus areas are used to a greater extent than before as a meeting place for students, researchers from different disciplines, employees and the outside world to take on global challenges and create new knowledge and innovations (base year 2020).

3.7 KTH encourages and offers opportunities for students and employees to create innovations that can contribute to sustainable development and KTH is seen as an attractive university for innovative students and researchers from all over the world.

3.8 KTH reaches and retains top positions in internationally known and recognised rankings that include sustainable development.

3.9 The visibility of KTH's work with sustainable development, gender equality and equal opportunities, and climate issues has increased (base year 2020).

Action plan for the university-wide sustainability objectives 2021-2025

The action plan describes measures, decision-makers, responsible manager in the line organisation, resources, and when the measures must be implemented at the latest and how decisions on the measures are to be communicated.

Measures

  1. In existing and new collaborations with different partners / target groups on a national and international level, sustainable development, gender equality and equal opportunities, and climate issues are integrated as part of the collaboration.
  2. Collaboration with the THS Student Union and other student organisations is developed in order to work with issues related to sustainability, gender equality and equal opportunities, and climate.
  3. Activities are carried out within KTH that highlight innovation and utilization in research in relation to sustainable development, gender equality and equal opportunities, and climate.
  4. KTH participates in rankings and other measurements and evaluations connected to sustainable development.
  5. Extra focus on sustainable development and climate is provided in KTH’s support activities within innovation.
  6. KTH develops locations on KTH’s campus that present climate and sustainability work and invite participation, for example through demonstration projects.

  8. KTH conducts seminars and other open lectures aimed at the general public, companies, municipalities, and other public administrations on sustainable development, including issues concerning climate transition, climate adaptation, biodiversity, ecosystem services, and renewable energy.
  9. KTH collaborates with non-governmental organisations and municipalities on issues of sustainable development, climate transition, and ecosystem services.
