Daniela
Daniela is from Austria and is studying Engineering Physics at KTH, specialising in Quantum Technology. She got her bachelor's degree from the Technical University of Vienna (TU Wien), Austria. Her passions outside of university include running, travelling, and playing the violin.

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
During my bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics, it already became clear that Quantum Physics was a part of physics that I was interested in. For this reason, I came to KTH. In this master's programme, they not only teach you the theory that describes fundamental parts of our nature. They also assist you in understanding the research and industry landscape of the field you specialise in. With the possibility of trying to work on different projects in different groups, you get a very hands-on experience of what it is like to be a researcher or work in the industry.
How is student life in Stockholm?
This was one of the reasons that I chose to come to Sweden – the student community!
Here, the students are organised into chapters corresponding to their field of study. Each chapter then helps you with things related to managing your studies as well as career opportunities and, of course, free-time events. The bouldering evenings of the F-chapter (physics) are always fantastic!
Upon arriving you should definitely take part in the THS reception. Doing this during the first weeks of my stay in Stockholm showed me the city in ways I could not have imagined on my own. Later, I also took part in hosting it for students, which was even more fun!
What are the best aspects of your programme?
One of the best aspects of the programme is the connection between students and professors. Not only can you expect help during your studies and lectures by receiving detailed answers and support for breaking down the material, but they are also extremely helpful when it comes to career opportunities and internships. As everyone is so easily approachable and happy to help, even complex concepts are made easily understandable.
How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?
The structure of the academic year is quite different to my previous one. Here at KTH, we start our studies in August and end at the beginning of June of the following year. This means that everything is more stretched out throughout the year, and you can get a deeper understanding of the subjects that you are learning. Also, you are only taking two courses at a time breaking the year down into four blocks. This makes studying a lot easier, but also makes time pass a little too fast!
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master's’s studies?
I would definitely recommend it! Not only is the education at KTH amazing, but life in Sweden makes it even better! The way you are supported through your studies makes the university experience fun. Swedish people's calmness and joy in their daily lives are felt not only on campus but also around the city. Taking the step to move countries can be scary, but coming to KTH was one of the best things I did. And I am sure that it will be an unforgettable experience for you too!
