Vera
Vera is from Germany. She's currently in her first year of the master's programme in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure at KTH. Before coming to Sweden, she earned her bachelor’s in Environmental Technology in a small student city called Jena. Aside from studies, she loves spending time with friends, doing fun outdoor sports, exploring new places and trying out new experiences.

What are the best aspects of your programme?
What I love most about my programme is the flexibility—we have so much freedom in choosing our courses. The hardest part is deciding which ones to take, because so many of them sound interesting! Another great aspect is the professors. They’re not only experienced but also incredibly open and supportive. Whether it’s a question about the course or advice on a project, they’re always willing to help.
What are some of your favourite courses so far?
My favourite courses so far have been Environmental Chemistry and Environmental Measuring. They both deal with remediation or detection of toxins, which I think is such an important topic. I am especially excited as the environmental measuring course will have a field trip on which we can actually apply all the methods that we learned about. And what makes the courses even better is that the professors are really passionate about their topic.
How is student life in Stockholm?
I absolutely love student life at KTH! Compared to my previous university, there are so many more traditions, events, and opportunities to get involved. It’s amazing how active and engaged the student community is. Most events and activities are organised entirely by students on a voluntary basis.
I’ve been helping out with planning the Summer Reception 2025 (which was lots of fun!), and I also enjoy participating in different events like sports or interest-based groups.
What do you want to do after graduating?
I see myself working in a chemical or water-related field. However, I would love to work in a job that is meaningful, contributes to creating a more sustainable and livable world, and that I enjoy.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?
Choosing KTH was honestly one of the best decisions I’ve made. If you’re considering it, I can only say: go for it! If you have any questions about the programme or doubts, email me, and hopefully I can clarify things!
