Femke

Femke is from the Netherlands and holds an honours bachelor’s degree in real estate management from Saxion University of Applied Sciences. In her free time, she enjoys dance and kickboxing classes, running, and spending time with friends and family. She’s excited to explore Stockholm’s natural surroundings and plans to go hiking and skiing as often as she can.

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

What drew me to KTH is its strong integration of academic theory, hands-on group projects, and direct collaboration with industry leaders like ABB and Skanska, both renowned for their contributions to sustainable development. This programme feels like a natural extension of my previous studies and internships, allowing me to build on my practical foundation while deepening my academic understanding. Real estate is a field I’m passionate about and one I see myself pursuing long-term.

I was also determined to study abroad, not only to broaden my perspective but to step outside of my comfort zone and grow both personally and professionally. Stockholm felt like the ideal choice as I was drawn to the combination of vibrant city life with peaceful, accessible nature.

Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? Which track and why?

I haven’t selected a specialization track yet, as I’m currently in my first year of study. However, I’m interested in combining elective courses from both the ''Construction Project Management'' and ''Building and Real Estate Economics'' tracks.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

My previous studies were at a university of applied sciences, where the emphasis was on practical learning through applied courses, internships, and collaborative group projects. In contrast, KTH’s programme offers a more academic approach, focusing especially on quantitative research methods. I’m particularly excited about how the programme incorporates sustainability, which aligns with the evolving priorities of the real estate industry and my own professional interests.

What do you want to do after graduating?

Pursuing a master’s degree will give me the knowledge and skills to develop strategic solutions for today’s complex urban challenges. As I’m still in my first year of study, I haven’t yet decided which area of real estate I’d like to specialise in. However, I’m confident that living abroad and gaining deeper insights into construction management and real estate economics will help clarify my path. Ultimately, I aspire to work for an international real estate firm where I can apply my expertise in a global context.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?

The application process felt intimidating to me at first, but remember: nothing ventured, nothing gained. I highly recommend reading through the course programme carefully and contacting KTH representatives with any questions you may have about the application process, programme content, or student life. Don’t hesitate to seek guidance - everyone is more than happy to help!
