Why did you choose this master's programme at KTH?

I wanted to specialise and gain expertise in my field of interest. Based on my experience at work, I felt it was necessary to improve my knowledge in the fields of design and structural analysis. Since KTH has a good reputation across Europe and is well known for its department of Solid Mechanics (Hållfasthetslära), I decided to pursue my higher studies at this university, and this has helped me improve my global networking skills and opened new avenues for job opportunities.

What are the best aspects of your programme? What did you like about your programme/track?

The courses provided are highly relevant in the industry, and we have good connections with our professors and PhD students at the Solid Mechanics department. More importantly, the Solid Mechanics track has its own separate track room (an accessible computer lab), where most students who pursue this track spend their time. This gives the opportunity for interaction and collaboration. We have a tradition in our track where each student takes turns preparing and serving a delicacy as part of fika on Fridays. So, I got to experience several new dishes throughout the year. With regards to the programme curriculum, each course has a balance between theory, laboratory sessions, and/or a project component, which helps to get a thorough understanding of the course from all perspectives.

What are your best memories from your time at KTH?

Besides the delightful fika experiences in the track room, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the archipelago known for its breathtaking beauty. I strongly recommend that fellow students take advantage of their monthly travel pass, allowing access to SL ferries for exploring the islands. It was an incredible and unforgettable experience. Hailing from a hot and humid region in India, I cherished witnessing my first snowfall at KTH. Heavy jackets and slippery pathways posed new adventures for me. One of the most cherished memories of my time here was receiving the KTH one-year scholarship for academic excellence, which truly acknowledged the dedication I had invested.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

The approach to engaging with professors at KTH is noticeably more open and friendly than my previous academic experiences. The master's curriculum at KTH offers a tailored approach, allowing me to focus on specific courses aligned with my interests and delve deeply into these subjects, both in theory and practical applications. This has significantly contributed to the realisation of my career goals. Contrary to the majority opinion, I did not find the period system (2 periods per semester) challenging or overwhelming. During my bachelor's studies at IITH, we followed a fractal system (3 segments per semester), which demanded considerable effort from students. However, incoming students should bear this in mind and adequately prepare themselves for their studies at KTH.

What do you want to do after graduating?

My education from KTH equips me to pursue roles in mechanics and vibrations. Given my specialisation in solid mechanics and the knowledge I have gained in structural analysis, venturing into product development and analysis would be a seamless transition, considering my prior experience. My goal is to explore industrial opportunities throughout Sweden, where I can collaborate and make meaningful contributions to the sectors of transportation, energy, and human enhancement.
