Master's programme in Software Engineering of Distributed Systems

Hi Anitha, what are you doing at the moment?

I work at Tele2 as automation lead. My responsibility is to drive and lead the automation journey from manual testing.

What might your regular working day look like?

There is no regular routine except for the daily stand-up meeting at which my team discuss what we worked on yesterday and what our plans are for today. Some days will be packed with meetings, conferences or training courses. Some days will be devoted to exploring new tools and frameworks. Other days will be spent coding.

Have you worked with anything else since you graduated?

Yes, I worked as a developer at Ericsson, an automation engineer at eBuilder and as a technical integration architect and later a DevOps engineer at Adtoox. Different roles, different experience: I enjoy challenges.

Why did you choose this programme at KTH?

I have always had a strong interest in the analysis, design, development and maintenance of distributed software systems. Software development using the distributed systems model drew my attention as it promotes agile software development and also achieves cross-platform pluggability across various reusable software components. The security, network and other challenges inherent in the field only added to my interest in the programme.

Did you acquire any insights during your studies that have been particularly useful in your career?

I had to learn different technologies and frameworks in each course in my programme. This helped me to meet the demands of my professional roles.

What were the best aspects of studying at KTH?

I found that group projects in most of my courses were close to a professional level, with multi-cultural teams and people with various levels of experience. It paved the way for getting along with different kinds of people and learning from their experiences, both social and professional.

What is your best memory from your time at KTH?

It is hard to pinpoint one best memory during my time at KTH as there are many. On the social side, I invited my friends at KTH to my house and we had a very good time, fun at friend’s birthday party and returning home around 2 am.

What are your plans for the future?

This is my first technical leadership position. My plan is to explore and learn more in this role and gradually move towards business management.

What would you say to a student thinking of applying for this programme?

Distributed systems are everywhere nowadays. If you have strong interest in networking, don’t hesitate. Just try it; who knows, you might create a new dimension in this field!
