I2P visits ABB

The Royal Institute of Technology and ABB have for many years had relationships in many different projects. Terrence Brown and the Department of Business Development and Entrepreneurship created a relation last year when ABB begun to sponsor a part of the competition Idea to Product (I2P) Global. During the competition ABB host their Technology Showcase & Networking Session where Magnus Backman, R&D Manager at ABB, last year congratulated the Eye Tribe (formerly known as Sensye) for the best prototype and showcase booth. This year the competition will be held at KTH in November and due to the competition I2P's Relations Manager Alexandra Bergkvist, together with graduate students Petter Johansson and Malin Olovsson, were invited to Västerås and got a tour of the new ABB Corporate Research Center.

  • It was great, they gave us a warm welcome, a presentation, lunch and a tour of the Research Center, says and about the visit.

Erik Persson is a scientist at the ABB Corporate Research Center and a judge in the competition and he says, "I really look forward to it and it will be really exciting see how I2P has evolved over the past year. This year will be different in the sense that I didn’t have many expectations last year, I was just happy to be involved, but this year I do have expectations. The teams that competed in 2011 were really good but this year I hope to get a more detailed presentation of the technology behind the products. "

Magnus Backman, feedback judge during the competition and R&D manager at ABB Corporate Research Center, gave a very interesting presentation of The ABB Group and explained in detail how they operate and how they create their diversity within the company. Alexandra took the opportunity to ask what attracted him and ABB to be involved in I2P Global? "The competition gives us an insight into what innovators from universities all around the world are up to right now, but the social side also attracted us to participate since it is a pleasant way to meet the new generation in the industry. I´m really looking forward to this year´s competition and just like Erik said, I hope for more in-depth technical presentations from the teams. "
