Postdoc in crystallization in natural systems

Job description

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in a project focusing on crystallization of calcium carbonate in the presence of nano- and microplastics that exist in the Baltic Sea environment. Calcium carbonate is an important component of marine organisms such as shells and mussels. Through this project, we hope to identify potential changes in the structure, growth and properties of the crystals and thus valuable insights into how plastic pollution can affect natural systems and how these effects can be minimized. The work includes design and experimental studies of simple model systems as well as more applied studies. The applicant should have extensive experience in laboratory work and is expected to be able to work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues at KTH and other universities.

The project is financed by Formas, a Swedish research council for sustainable development. The work will be supported by an international scientific advisory group.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or material science.. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.(With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume)
  • Expertise in crystallization and precipitation.
  • Strong academic credentials and scientific proficiency documented in publications.
  • Curiosity, drive and ability to maintain a well-organized work environment.
  • Strong laboratory/instrumental skills
  • An analytical approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, as it is required in daily work
  • Teaching abilities
  • Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality
  • We are looking for motivated individuals who can contribute with their own ideas and who can work both independently and as part of a group. 

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
