Postdoc in Production Digitalization (Assembly & Model-Based Engineering)
School of Industrial Engineering and Management at KTH
Job description
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher in assembly and production system design, with a focus on modularisation, digitalisation, and Model-Based Engineering (MBE). The role involves contributing to the development of future assembly systems—flexible, digitally connected, and aligned with circular and sustainable production models. The research aims to create solutions that combine technological innovation with organisational learning and support industry’s transition toward more resilient and sustainable manufacturing. The work is carried out in collaboration with projects in assembly design, digital transformation, and AI-supported production, as well as industrial partners within XPRES and international networks.
The postdoc will develop methods and tools for digital and model-based support in assembly processes, including modelling, simulation, and data integration between product and production development. A key focus is creating coherent digital representations of products, processes, and resources to enable more efficient design, validation, and control of assembly systems. There are also opportunities to engage in interdisciplinary initiatives involving technology, humans, and organisations, such as human–machine interaction and sustainable production planning.
The position also includes pedagogical development and course design in production digitalisation and assembly. The aim is to strengthen the link between research, teaching, and practical application by integrating research results into courses and developing new learning activities in collaboration with industry.
The postdoc will join the research group in smart and digital production and contribute to developing the department’s research lab as a testbed for research, education, and industry collaboration. The postdoc is expected to conduct research, develop independence, contribute to research proposals and industrial collaborations, and take part in teaching and supervision. More information is available in the Employment Regulations and on the website of the Swedish Agency for Government Employers.
