Postdoc focused on resilience assessment: research center PLENTY

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Architecture and Built Environment

Job description

In PLENTY – centre for symbiotic and circular food provisioning (financed by Formas) we carry out research on how existing side streams and waste streams in the food sector can become new foods, inputs and ingredients. Research is done together with a large group of non-academic partners. The research takes a special interest in what side streams there are, that can be valorised in circular flows, how symbiotic collaborations and systems can develop, related innovation processes, and how/if circular foods are embraced by consumers.

This postdoctoral position is part of the work package Systems and will focus specifically on resilience assessment of symbiotic and circular food provisioning – partly in a regional context. Research tasks can involve mapping existing side streams, analysing how these can be used, how processors and consumers accept these foods, and how this alternative use impacts resilience of the food system.

You are expected to plan, carry out and publish your research in line with the vision and goals of PLENTY, and specifically on resilience assessment. You will also communicate results directly to non-academic partners, to other stakeholders, at scientific conferences, and at other types of seminars and workshops. The exact content of your research project will be formulated together with senior researchers in PLENTY and with non-academic partners. In addition to skills in resilience thinking and sustainability of the food system, the successful candidate has good knowledge of case study methodology, can use qualitative and quantitative research methods, and has a good understanding of the Swedish food system context.

As a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Science and Engineering (SEED), the successful candidate will be a part of the PLENTY team, as well as part of the interdisciplinary research environment at the department. The position can include up to 20% of teaching, if there is need for it at the department. Teaching duties will prolong the time as postdoctoral researcher.
