Mistra SAMS
Aim and main expected results
SAMS stands for Sustainable Accessability and Mobility Services. The programme is hosted and managed by KTH Royal Institute of Technology in close cooperation with VTI Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute. Together with its partners, Mistra SAMS conducts innovative research on the transformation of mobility in primarily urban environments.
The goal of Mistra SAMS is to provide knowledge about factors that influence public actors’ means to, together with private actors, foster a transition to platform-based accessibility services that contribute to a transition of the urban transport system towards sustainability targets in a substantial way.
Mistra SAMS has an urban focus and takes as its starting-point the conditions in Stockholm, both the inner city and suburbs. Based on this empirical foundation, the programme provides insights into public actors’ possible roles and means to influence development and implementation of new accessibility services and platform technology; Which pathways are open to public actors? Which opportunities for action are available, and which are the effects of those opportunities on long-term sustainability targets?
The work will be conducted in the following work packages: Project management; Framing transitions to sustainable accessibility; Strategic Outlook; Understanding user needs, institutional conditions and sustainability performance; Designing and testing accessibility services and platforms; Exploring impacts on city, regional and national levels; and Planning paradigm and policy recommendations.
The researchers at the Integrated Product Development unit are mainly engaged in the work package 5: Designing and testing accessibility services and platforms.
Project partners
Mistra SAMS is a co-operation of partners from academia, industry and the public sector. The partners are K2 – the Swedish knowledge centre for public transport, University of Karlstad/SAMOT, Lund University – IIIEE, Swedish Transport Administration, City of Stockholm, City of Malmö, Botkyrka kommun, Ericsson, FRAC/Hertz/Sunfleet, Scania, Open Lab, Samtrafiken, Savantic and itch/Transformator Design.
