About me
Dr. Jagruti Thakur is a distinguished researcher at the Department of Energy Technology, KTH, and a Digital Futures Faculty member. She earned her Ph.D. in Energy System Analysis and Retail Rate Modelling from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, with a focus on energy policy for renewables in India. Prior to her current role, she served as a project executive for GIS-based urban planning projects in India.
Dr. Thakur holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering and a Master’s degree in Project and Finance Management. She was awarded the Bhaskar Advanced Solar Energy (BASE) fellowship by the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) in 2016. During her Ph.D., she visited the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in Berkeley, California, where she contributed to the Energy Analysis & Environmental Impacts Division with the Electricity Markets and Policy-RE Group.
In recognition of her outstanding doctoral research, Dr. Thakur received the POSOCO Power System Award (PPSA) in 2017 from the Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO), India, an honor bestowed upon the 15 best Ph.D. theses in the country each year.
Dr. Thakur has extensive experience supervising several Master's theses and is currently supervising Ph.D. students. She is actively involved in projects with Swedish municipalities aimed at providing solutions for network planning, infrastructure sizing optimization, and sector coupling, utilizing both mathematical and heuristic tools such as AI. Additionally, she is working on projects focused on developing integrated assessment tools to evaluate the water-energy-food nexus for developing nations.
Her primary focus is on developing open-source tools, methods, and frameworks that serve researchers, industries, and society at large, contributing to the sustainable development. Her current research interests encompass Demand Side Management, Digitalization of Energy, Local Energy Communities, Energy Storage, Electrification/Hydrogenation of the transport sector, and Energy Systems Modelling.
