About me
I am Professor of Coating Technology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology, School of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health (CBH) since 2005. I am also Vice Chair of the CBH Faculty Board for the period 2024–2026.
My research focuses on polymer chemistry and the design of sustainable functional materials, with particular interests in controlled polymerization, polymeric nanoparticles, surface modification of cellulose and other biofibres, bio-based polymers and coatings, and wood adhesives. A recurring theme in my research is the connection between molecular design, interfaces and material performance, with renewable raw materials as an important platform.
I received my PhD in Polymer Technology from KTH in 1996 and subsequently spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University and IBM Almaden Research Center. Since 2020, I have been Director of the Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC), Sweden’s largest research center dedicated to developing new sustainable materials from trees.
I am also Vice Director of the FibRe and BioGlue competence centres. Over the years, I have held several leadership positions at KTH, including Head of Department, Vice President and Deputy President.
I am an elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (KVA) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA). I am also a co-founder of Polymer Factory Sweden AB.
My office is located at Teknikringen 48, level 4.
