About me
Trained as a historian, my work moves between the Arctic and Antarctica, examining how science, environment, geopolitics and cultural heritage shape understandings of the polar regions. In addition to my research, I teach Gender and Technology studies and contribute to international research and policy initiatives concerning the polar regions. I also enjoy academic leadership. I hold a PhD in History from Stellenbosch University, and previously worked at Umeå University and the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat. I publish as Lize-Marié van der Watt, which is also myde factoname (some things do not translate well in countries with highly digitalized bureaucracies).
