About me

I take pride in my work with science and engineering in the energy field. As a Professor in Energy Technology this opportunity lies before me every day, in research projects conducted on an international arena, in close collaboration with industry and many fellow scientists. In particular, my research and development contribution has for the past two decades focused on the abundance of renewable energy, challenged by its diverse and fluctuating nature. To harness renewable energy, and effectively use these sources for our daily demands calls for new energy structures in society. Storage of heat and cold bridges the gap between supply and demand and enables the creation of smart energy networks, focusing on energy services rather than our old tradition of only one form of energy at the time. For example, I manage projects on advanced thermal energy storage, from materials – to component design – to system analysis, all collaborating within the IEA’s Technology Collaboration Platform on Energy Storage.

Equally important to research is the meeting with young people pursuing their education related to energy engineering. As a professor and teacher, I spend time with their learning process from BSc courses like Engineering Thermodynamics, to MSc-level courses on innovation and entrepreneurship related to sustainable energy. It is truly an honor to take part in their hard work and discussions as they develop their knowledge and skills for successfully managing the many complex challenges that come with realizing sustainability. Recently, I have recently been appointed as the Director of Internationalisation in Undergraduate Education within the School of Industrial Engineering and Management, KTH.
