Abstract: A short overview on whole aircraft noise assessment at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is provided. The focus lies on simulation activities of single flight events of existing and novel aircraft architectures, i.e., assessment of virtual certification and community noise impact. Challenges behind such an assessment are discussed and requirements for tools and methods are derived. The simulation process as established at DLR is presented and recent application examples are provided.
Bio: Lothar works for DLR since 2006 and leads a team of Post-Docs, PhD, and graduate students. He has 15+ years of experience in overall aircraft noise simulation and low-noise aircraft design. He initiated and organized several international workshops, cooperations, and special issues in the field of aircraft noise. He is a Visiting Assistant Professor at TU Delft (since 2014) and an Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow at CITY University of London (since 2024). Lothar is nominated as a technical expert to ICAO CAEP (since 2020) and was awarded a Professorship at RWTH Aachen (since 2025).
