First postdoc of 2023 at KTH Climate Action Centre is Francesca Larosa, previously postdoc research fellow at University College London. Combining Artificial intelligence and climate action research, she will explore interlinkages between different Sustainable Development Goals.

Hello Francesca, what will you be doing at KTH Climate Action Centre?

”I will work as a postdoc at the intersection between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and climate action. I am part of a two-year demonstrator project funded by Digital Futures: I will use AI methods to explore existing and possible interlinkages between different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), starting of course with SDG13, climate action.”

Can you give an example of your research?

”The fight to limit global temperature increase to below 1.5°C requires action in reducing emissions and adapting to new conditions. These measures work in synergy – or in conflict – with other goals, such as poverty alleviation, food security, decent employment and affordable energy for all. The objective of the project is to use AI to assess and quantify these spillovers to suggest realistic and effective policy options.”

What do you think is most important for climate action in the near future?

”Research in climate sciences can inform policy only when it is inclusive, interdisciplinary and holistic. In the near future we must ensure no one is left behind: climate change is everyone’s business and needs a coordinated action.”
