KTH Climate Action Centre has arranged its first workshop in collaboration with the interdisciplinary research centre Digital Futures. The workshop focused on how digitalization can help fight climate change and in achieving the climate goals.

”The role of digitalization in achieving the climate goals” is the first installment in a series of interdisciplinary workshops revolving around climate action that will be held in 2022. Representatives from KTH, Ericsson, IVL, SEI, IBM, EcoDataCenter, and Klarna all participated in the workshop.

The primary discussion point during the workshop was how digitalization can help reach the climate goals. Both regarding how information about new climate solutions disseminates and how technology needed for digitalization can be manufactured and used in a climate-neutral way.

Methods for reaching the climate goals are equally as extensive as digitalization. Ambitious mentioned by the workshop participants include zero greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire production chain and the creation of site mapping data of global trade chains that can help find the source of our greenhouse gas emissions.

KTH Climate Action Centre is now planning collaborations and meetings with other organizations interested in climate action, all in the direction of reaching the climate goals.

”Digitalization is focusing on power, not direction. Climate action centre is the direction”, says Mattias Höjer, member of the Strategic Research Committee, Digital Futures.
