Brief description:

Modern railway propulsion system consists of several power conversion stages, between the pantograph and the traction motors. At any stage of them, the electromagnetic disturbances are generated and influence other subsystems in the train and infrastructure. These disturbances can be both conducted and radiated and at the range from several kHz to dozens of MHz. Failures caused by these electromagnetic inferences (EMI) are reported in the practical applications. Therefore, the mechanism of how the EM noise is generated in the propulsion system from EMC point of view need to be studied.

The whole propulsion system is studied separately in the following sub-systems: Line converter module (LCM), Motor converter module(MCM), and Motor. The interference is simulated in PSpice to understand how the influence factors impact on the EM performance of these system. In MCM simulation, MTL is applied to model the cables connecting the inverter and the motor. The relationship between the length of cables and the frequency or magnitude of the inference is given.

Another study about the diode failure of the pre-charger is conducting. This study will give the possible causes for diode defects in the pre-charger. Some prevent methods will be provided as well.
