Assessment and Mitigation of Risk for Disabling Control Centers of Large Power Networks by Intentional radiofrequency Interference - SafePowNet.

SafePowNet på High Voltage Valleey

KTH is part of the project "SafePowNet", lead by High Voltage Valley.

Today’s society’s infrastructures have embedded in their systems electronic devices and computers providing critical control, which makes them vulnerable to electromagnetic interference. Therefore, it is important to investigate the risk of disabling control centers of large power networks by Intentional Radio Frequency Interference (IRFI) (a.k.a IEMI) for example by criminals, hooligans, disgrunted employees or from a terror attack.

The overall project objective is to assess the risks for, and take measures to prevent, disabling of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA) of control centers and other vital infrastructure of electric power grids via IRFI.

The project is, as of May 2010, finished. The results have been reported to the DG-JLS and concerned agencies in Sweden.
