Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

I chose this master’s programme primarily for its diverse coursework in sustainability and the flexibility it offers in selecting a specialised track. Having always aimed to study abroad after graduation, I wanted to experience different cultures and work alongside peers dedicated to translating theory into practical applications. As Sweden and KTH lead the way in sustainability, my decision was obvious. KTH’s vibrant international community has allowed me to collaborate with global peers who share my dedication to the field, which is quite important to solving global environmental challenges.

What are some of your favourite courses so far? 

I have enjoyed all my courses so far, as each of them focuses on different areas and makes you really think about pathways to achieve a sustainable outcome. One of my favourite courses was “Strategic Environmental Assessment", which evaluates the environmental side of a policy or plan before being implemented. One of the aspects which I genuinely liked was how we were made to sit and think about the environmental issues and discuss among ourselves. Everybody participated, and no thought, however small it might be, was ignored. In addition, interviews with different stakeholders were conducted to get more insights into their thinking and opinions, which really helped me learn more about how the industry works. What makes this course even better is that the professor is immensely passionate about this topic.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

KTH focuses a lot on practical aspects, which I felt were missing in my previous studies. In most of my courses, I worked with real-life data and scenarios, understanding how the results we got through our analysis would be applicable if implemented in real time. I felt that group work is given quite importance at KTH, unlike my previous university. During the seminars, I find it fascinating to hear the thoughts of other students and discuss my own views regarding the same topic. I find this collaboration culture very unique and important for exchanging ideas and learning from one another. Furthermore, all the professors and teaching assistants are quite approachable and helpful, willing to solve any problems you might face.

How is student life in Stockholm? 

Student life is quite vibrant in KTH and Stockholm. There is always something happening where you can participate and meet new people. Most of the events are organised by students voluntarily. The people are very helpful and open-minded. I was lucky enough to receive immense support from different students when I first arrived in Stockholm, which was more than I could ever imagine. A lot of places have special offers for students, thus encouraging them to be involved in extracurricular activities like sports. In student housing, you would find an amazing diversity of people, helping you make new friendships and memories. All in all, Stockholm never lets you feel bored! If you get out of your comfort zone, the possibilities of having a fun time are endless.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?

I would say absolutely go for it! There were a lot of thoughts in my mind when I was choosing my university for master’s studies, as it was my first time going abroad, but in the end, I am really glad that I chose KTH. It is everything that I had wished for, be it academically or adventurously. So, start preparing your application and give your best!
