Corpora of notated and recorded music can answer a wide range of research questions. In order to obtain an analysis of the data in an efficient way, the development of computational analysis methods has attracted increased intention. This talk will provide examples of the analysis of rhythmic and tonal aspects in corpora from various music cultures. The insights will be related to the theoretical frameworks of the analyzed music cultures. Potentials and limitations will be discussed, in specific the need for a collaboration between experts with the goal of analytic processes that combine close-reading with quantitative methods.
