A new device, which was developed at the Politecnico di Torino, will be shown and its basic principle will be described. The device is a low-cost vocal analyser that is equipped with a contact sensor to be fixed at the jugular notch of the subject under monitoring, thus sensing the skin vibration induced by the vocal folds activity while speaking. The lessons will be focused on the metrological characterization of the device, which allows measurement traceability to be ensured and obtained parameters to be qualified in terms of uncertainty. The importance of these conditions will be highlighted in order to obtain a reliable correlation among extracted vocal parameters and acoustics of the rooms, self-perception and clinical status of the subject under monitoring.
