KTH Wireless beyond telecommunication

This research initiative aims to bring together the most successful research leaders at KTH across within wireless communication and related technology fields. The objective is to foster synergy effects and harness the potential of emerging application fields where wireless technology can be utilized to the benefit of society, even beyond traditional telecommunication.

Progress in wireless technology is expected to impact emerging application areas that extend significantly beyond traditional telecommunication. This is evidenced by several trends, for instance, joint communication and sensing (JCAS). Moreover, machine learning techniques for hardware and network optimization are also becoming widespread.

Telecommunication is a priority focus area for KTH, as is achieving a sustainable society through digitalisation.

Together with earlier strong initiatives on wireless technology, such as the former “Wireless@KTH” centre, KTH is a leading technical university with research and education in telecommunication. It is essential that KTH maintains its leadership and has an early grip on upcoming, unconventional application fields of telecommunication technologies. This can be realised through this initiative.

Sweden has historically had a substantial industrial weight in telecommunications. It is characterised by a high degree of innovation from strong industrial and academic collaboration on telecommunications, which is essential for maintaining industrial leadership in the future.
