Staff development
In order to thrive, develop and grow at KTH, employees, managers and leaders have access to programmes and activities for introduction, staff training, career and competence development. Here you will find a summary of our offerings and initiatives to support your development at KTH.
Career development
At KTH, there are many opportunities for development – regardless of whether you are a researcher, teacher, doctoral student or if you work within professional services. We offer career coaching, mentoring programmes and job shadowing opportunities that promote learning, exchange of experience and growth, supporting you in planning your career, discovering new opportunities and creating a balance between professional and personal development.
For teachers and researchers, KTH offers a tenure track – an academic career path with individual support, competence development and opportunities for promotion. Being an appointed docent at KTH is a recognition of high scientific and pedagogical competence and strengthens your ability to lead research, supervise doctoral students and to contribute to KTH’s academic development.
International career support is also available through our European collaborations within Unite and EURAXESS. They can provide tools and networks to advance your research career globally.
Through the EU programme, Erasmus+, you can apply for fundings to study, undertake a placement or develop your skills at a higher education institution in another EU country. The Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) also offers exchange and mobility programmes for public sector employees, such as work placements abroad that provide valuable experience, new networks and a broader international outlook.
Competence development
Competence development at KTH takes place in many ways – through everyday work, collegial exchange of experience, internal training courses, seminars, open events, language cafés and research-related activities such as doctoral theses. Regardless of your area of work, there is support to help you stay up to date and continue developing within your field, even in areas with a fast pace of change.
As a new employee – regardless of whether you come from Sweden or abroad – you are offered a structured introduction to help you become a part of KTH.
KTH offers a wide range of internal development opportunities through programs, courses, mentorship, and coaching. As part of the university alliance Unite!, you can also benefit from a wide range of international learning opportunities, tools and resources for professional development for teachers, researchers as well as administrative and technical staff.
Leadership and organisational development
As a leader at KTH, you have the opportunity to grow – both professionally and as a person. We believe in leadership based on self-awareness, reflection and the courage to develop together with others. Through experiential learning, coaching and workshops, you will get support to lead with awareness and clarity, manage current challenges, and build sustainable teams where results are driven by mutual trust and active cooperation. You will also be offered tailored development initiatives that strengthen your leadership in a changing world.
