Learning for Sustainable Development

KTH's vision for the years 2024-2028 reads "We take the lead for a sustainable society". The graduated students from KTH shall be driving forces in the development of society and technology, and the education shall stimulate independent thought, creativity and a curious and critical look at existing technology. The new engineers and architects shall develop solutions that involve both innovations and improvements with a clear social dimension, a clear focus on sustainability issues and, for some, even an artistic dimension.

KTH educates tomorrow's practitioners, decision makers and leaders

Students who have graduated from KTH work in authorities, organisations, business, etc. KTH's policy for sustainable development points out that KTH shall "Offer first-class education that equips future professionals with knowledge, commitment, critical thinking and practical tools that help them to contribute to a sustainable society. Encourage, educate and create the conditions for employees and students to contribute to sustainable development inside and outside their organisation."

The graduated engineers and architects are expected to be able to actively contribute to sustainable societal development directly after graduation. These skills are ensured via examination according to the Higher Education Ordinance (1993: 100) (Swedish).

Knowledge and skills related to sustainable development are sought by the students

Knowledge and skills in sustainable development are sought by both students and employers. The results from the career surveys  of recent years show that the ability to make assessments with regard to sustainable development within one's work tasks is becoming increasingly important. In these surveys, requests for more internships, study visits, lecturers from the business community, contact with the business community, more project work, more focus on sustainable development and more examples from reality have also been expressed.
