SD2905 Human Spaceflight

During the spring semester each year, the course SD2905 Human Spaceflight 7.5 credits is given. An important part of the course is a project work that is carried out in groups of four to six students.
The students are divided into two teams that consist of different subgroups. Together, the groups must solve a major issue or problem. The project work is presented at the end of the course during a conference day.

Below are the different groups' reports from different years.

2024: A Space Taxi for Two People

The space taxi is the conceptual design of a two-person spaceplane to provide frequent connections to future space stations in Low Earth Orbit

2023: Design of human base on the Moon

In 2023 the goal was to design a lunar research base from scratch, including cargo and crew
transportation via SpaceX’s Starship. But also infrastructure, rover requirements and in-situ resource utilization.

2022: Mission to Mars surface

In 2022 the goal was to plan a human Mars mission for two, Tom and Tina Sjögren from Pythom Space, in order to explore the Mars surface.

2021: Climbing the Olympus Mons

In 2021 the goal was to be the first to climb the highest mountain in the solar system.

2020: Human Mission for Asteroid Exploitation

The objective in 2020 was to study a concept for a resource mining mission to a near-Earth asteroid.

2019: Service and Maintenance of Geostationary Satellites

The objective in 2019 was to study sending astronauts to repair and service geostationary satellites.

2018: Moon Exploration with the Deep Space Gateway

In 2018, the objective of the project work was to investigate how to use the Deep Space Gateway for further exploration of the moon.

2017: Passenger Ship to Mars

The goal of the project in 2017 was to design a passenger ship that would be able to carry 30 passengers to Mars.

2016: A Space Hotel in Low Earth Orbit

In 2016 the objective was to propose a concept for a space hotel in low Earth orbit to make a profit of space tourism.

2015: Manned Lunar Base

In 2015 the scope was to design a mission for a manned base on the Moon. The base would be used for research and exploration.

2014: First Human Mission to the Planet Mars

The course was first given in 2014, and the project this year was aimed at presenting a design concept of the first human mission to the planet Mars.
