Albin

Albin comes from Storvreta outside of Uppsala, and spent five years in Umeå studying architecture before heading to Stockholm to deepen his expertise with a second master’s in architectural lighting design at KTH. With a background that spans everything from bartending to carpentry, he brings a hands-on mindset and a broad perspective to the world of design.

Hej hej! My name is Albin, and I come from Storvreta, located just outside Uppsala. However, for the past five years, I have been living in Umeå, where I completed my bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture. Now, at 26 years old, I am pursuing a second master's degree in architectural lighting design at KTH.

Why did you choose this Master’s programme at KTH?

I chose to study architectural lighting design to gain a deeper understanding of a specific aspect of my future profession that is often overlooked in traditional architecture programs. So far, the programme has exceeded my expectations and I feel a lot more confident that I have something valuable to bring to the table in any design process.

What are the best aspects of your programme?

One of the best aspects of the programme is its hands-on approach, which emphasizes practical testing. This method fosters an intuitive understanding of light that can be applied in design far more effectively than theoretical knowledge alone would allow.

How is student life in Stockholm?

My studies at KTH are more structured and, at times, more rigid than what I experienced at my previous university. Student life in Stockholm is quite exciting with new places and events to explore and experience at all times. The international nature of the master’s programme is also incredibly rewarding, as I’ve made friends from all over the world. This mix of backgrounds creates an open and inviting social atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.

What do you want to do after graduating?

After graduating from KTH, I hope to secure an exciting job that allows me to combine my two master's degrees, and be a contributing member of a small to medium-sized architecture firm. With the soft skills gained from my architectural education - where the design process is emphasized alongside the hard knowledge and experience acquired in architectural lighting design, I am eager to make the final step into my professional career.
