Sai Reddy

Hi! I’m Sai Reddy, proudly from Namma Bengaluru, India. I have a bachelor’s degree
In Mechanical Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University. Alongside my studies, I’m gaining hands-on experience as a Mechanical Design Intern at a KTH Innovation–incubated startup, where I contribute to real-world product development and design challenges. When I’m not buried in CAD models or design sprints, you will most likely find me on the badminton court, plotting my next smash, or deep in a chess match, thinking three moves ahead. I’m always up for the challenge any day, anytime, anyplace!

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

I chose the Integrated Product Design Master’s at KTH because it combines engineering, design and innovation: exactly what I was looking for after my Mechanical Engineering degree. The Innovation Management and Product Development track helps me build both creative and technical skills. Plus, KTH’s strong ties with industry and startups give me hands-on experience.

What are the best aspects of your programme?

One of the things I enjoy most about my programme is the variety of courses that blend both technical design and innovation management. We have courses like Product Innovation, Machine Design, systems engineering and Innovation & Product Development Processes, each of which helps me look at problems from both a designer’s and an engineer’s perspective. The coursework is very hands-on and team-based, which makes learning more practical and fun. Every project feels like a step closer to the real-world work I want to do.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?
Studies at KTH are much more practical, project based, and team oriented compared to my previous studies in India, which were mostly theory focused and exam driven. Here, we work a lot in groups, solving real-world problems through case studies, design projects, and presentations. There’s also a strong emphasis on critical thinking, self-learning, and applying knowledge creatively rather than just memorizing it. I also enjoy the freedom we have to explore ideas and the encouragement to question and collaborate with professors and classmates.

How is student life in Stockholm?

Student life in Stockholm is amazing! The city is beautiful, safe, and super student-friendly. There’s always something happening: student events, cultural festivals, nature hikes, and of course, fika (Swedish coffee breaks) with friends. At KTH, there’s a strong sense of community, and it’s easy to meet people from all over the world. Plus, with all the lakes, parks, and islands, it's perfect for relaxing or exploring when you need a break from studies. Even in winter, there’s a unique charm and yes, I’ve slowly gotten used to the snow and darkness!

How would you describe your time at KTH so far?

My time at KTH so far has been inspiring, challenging, and full of growth. Every day I get to learn something new, not just from classes, but also from working with amazing people from around the world. The projects are intense but rewarding, and I’ve had the chance to apply what I learnt to my internship with a KTH Innovation incubated startup. It’s also been a lot of fun I’ve made great friends, explored Stockholm, and found a good balance between academics and enjoying student life. Overall, it’s been an exciting journey and I’m looking forward to what’s next!
