Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

Since I was a child, my fascination with space engineering has been unwavering, driving me to pursue a career in Aerospace Engineering. Throughout my studies, I had the opportunity to explore various captivating fields, including electronics, communication systems, and electromagnetism. Ultimately, my passion for Electromagnetic Compatibility fueled my decision to undertake a final project in this area. So, when I stumbled upon the opportunity to pursue a master's degree that seamlessly combined space and electromagnetism, it felt like a destiny calling. Add to this the prestigious reputation of KTH as a world-renowned university, made it irresistible.

What are the best aspects of your programme?

The Electromagnetics, Fusion, and Space programme stands out as a truly unique offering. Its name alone encapsulates its significance. This programme delves into areas of work with immense potential for development, spanning from nuclear fusion to satellite technologies. One of the most compelling features of this master's degree is its remarkable flexibility. It allows us, the students, to customise our studies and delve deeper into our specific interests. The programme accommodates individual preferences, whether specialising in a single field or exploring multiple areas. Furthermore, this programme perfectly balances theory and practical application. Given the complexity of the subjects, there are ample opportunities to reinforce theoretical knowledge through hands-on laboratory experiences. Likewise, it offers the chance to actively engage in projects aligned with one's chosen track (Microwave, Plasma, Space or Photonics). It further enhances practical application and enables us to extend our knowledge beyond the classroom. And finally, one of the programme's key strengths lies in its diverse and international community. The programme provides an excellent working and studying environment with many nationalities represented. The cultural exchange and global perspectives contribute to a vibrant atmosphere.

Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? If yes, which track and why? What are some of your favourite courses so far?

I have chosen the Microwave track, complemented by electives from the Space track. This combination aligns with my academic background and offers a remarkable opportunity to harmonise my knowledge. Within the Microwave track, I have had the privilege of immersing myself in captivating courses such as Microwave Engineering and Applied Antenna Theory. These courses have equipped me with essential design principles for high-frequency components, enabling me to efficiently create antenna designs and stay up to date with the latest advancements and technologies. Moreover, my space-related electives, such as GNSS and Modern Physics, have provided me with invaluable insights from mapping techniques to unravelling the mysteries of the Universe. Looking ahead, I am particularly excited about upcoming courses such as Build Your Own Radar and Electromagnetic Compatibility and the opportunity to participate in the Project Course in Electromagnetics, which will provide me with a hands-on opportunity to apply my knowledge in a real-world context.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

One main difference is the course organisation. At KTH, the course structure is divided into four periods instead of two semesters. This division allows for a more intense approach to learning, with fewer subjects each period, immersing yourself in the material. Another aspect is the regularity of homework assignments. Some assignments keep us on our toes every week and constantly engaged with the course material. While it may seem demanding, these assignments ensure you stay updated with the content and test what you are learning. Finally, the close relationship with the teachers is remarkable. With fewer students in my programme, we have a tight-knit community. The professors are accessible and always ready to provide guidance and support. This supportive and nurturing learning environment has contributed significantly to my personal growth as a student.

How is student life in Stockholm?

Student life in Stockholm is delightful. The city offers a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere for students. One of the highlights is the student associations organising various activities, providing opportunities to meet new friends and have a great time. Whether you're interested in sports, music, or other hobbies, there are numerous associations to suit your preferences and help you connect with new people. Additionally, the proximity of the student accommodations to the university allows for easy interaction and the formation of friendships with fellow corridor mates and classmates. Living nearby enhances the overall student experience. Beyond the university environment, Stockholm is a charming city where nature seamlessly blends with urban life. The city is full of lakes and forests, offering various outdoor activities during summer and winter! Whether hiking, swimming or simply strolling amidst the captivating scenery. I mainly live in Lappis, and I couldn't be happier. It is surrounded by the beauty of the forest and a nearby beach while exclusively populated by students.
