Ask Nyein Htet a question

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

I chose this master's programme at KTH because it's designed for people like me, who have an Engineering academic background and an entrepreneurial spirit. I have experience in starting my own business and competing in entrepreneurship challenges. Due to a lack of theoretical knowledge in entrepreneurship, my previous attempts to become an entrepreneur were unsuccessful, so I believe this programme will equip me with the necessary knowledge and skills to become a successful tech entrepreneur.

What are some of your favourite courses so far?

My favourite course, so far, is Business Opportunity Development. In this course, we have learned about various techniques that are very useful to start a business from the basic idea. We also have a chance to develop our business idea from scratch and pitch our idea to look for an opportunity to start our venture. We have also interviewed an on-going startup company and analysed its performance using theories we learned during the course.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

First of all, the study periods in KTH are different from my time in NTU. At KTH, there are two periods in each semester, and each period has different courses and takes around two months. At NTU, each semester takes around four months, and all courses are the same in one semester. Another different aspect is teaching philosophy. In KTH, most courses are taught using a learner-centred teaching method focusing on students' active participation, helping students to exploit their full potential with the guidance of very skilled teachers.

How is student life in Stockholm?

Student life in Stockholm, so far, is lively and exciting for me. I have enjoyed different kinds of international student activities ranging from campus treasure hunt to Gasque (themed dinner). All those activities are arranged by students from the student union. The events are fun and the places to make more friends easily. Another interesting activity for me is that the student union set up a "buddies group" for all newcomers. There, we can ask endless questions to clear our doubts about settling in KTH and Stockholm. The buddies are senior students who have already experienced as new students at KTH. So, you can throw any question you want to them. I am also enjoying activities such as late-night forest parties and corridor get-together dinners at my student housing accommodation, Lappis.

What do you want to do after graduating?

I am currently trying to absorb more about Sweden and will decide what to do later. I have two choices in my mind currently. I am thinking of continuing my education through PhD studies after my master's degree, or I would like to get involved in the working culture of Sweden for a few years before going back to my country.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?

Please choose the master’s programme that is interesting and exciting for you. Then, please focus on admission. I can assure you that KTH is one of the best universities in the world where students can grow limitlessly. Neither studying at KTH nor settling in Stockholm will be a problem for you because there will be friendly classmates, supportive friends, and helpful teachers who can make your experience at KTH seamless and enjoyable.
