Julian
Julian comes from Germany and earned his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from DHBW Mannheim. After working as a development engineer in the automotive industry for a few years, he decided it was time to dive deeper into vehicle dynamics and future mobility – which led him to KTH and the master's programme in Vehicle Engineering. Outside of studies, Julian is passionate about all kinds of sports, especially running, skiing, diving, and hiking. Exploring Sweden's vast and stunning nature has become one of his favourite parts of life in Stockholm – and it was actually one of the reasons he chose to study here in the first place.

Why did you choose this master's programme at KTH?
For me, choosing the Vehicle Engineering programme at KTH was a clear and easy decision. After working on sustainable commercial vehicles in my previous job, I knew that this was the field I wanted to explore further. What really stood out about KTH was the flexibility in course selection, the strong focus on sustainable transportation, and the close ties to leading companies in the automotive industry like Scania and Volvo. All of this – combined with the opportunity to live in Stockholm – made KTH the perfect fit.
What are the best aspects of your programme?
One of the best aspects of the Vehicle Engineering programme is the strong connection between theory and practice. Almost every course includes a hands-on project alongside the lectures, usually ending with a presentation and a written report. This setup really pushes us to apply what we've learned in a practical context, which makes the learning experience much more engaging—even if it keeps the semesters quite busy! It's also a great opportunity to collaborate with classmates and solve complex challenges together, which makes the hard work a lot more enjoyable.
How is student life in Stockholm?
Before moving to Stockholm, I was honestly a bit nervous about going abroad—especially about making new friends. Questions like “Will I meet people quickly?" or "What if I don't?" were on my mind. But looking back, those worries were completely unnecessary.
Student life in Stockholm, and especially at KTH, is incredibly welcoming and vibrant. With everything from student chapters (the KTH student unions), student clubs, parties and events, it's easy to meet like-minded people and feel at home. Already during the International Reception—four weeks packed with activities for new international students at the beginning of the semester—I met so many new friends and had a fantastic time exploring the city.
KTH also makes it really easy to follow your passions or try something new. I wanted to spend more time outdoors, and thanks to the KTH Outdoor Club, I got to do just that—joining trips to stunning parts of Sweden and Norway, including the Arctic landscapes of Lapland.
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
If I had to describe my time at KTH in just one word, it would be intense. The studies are demanding and time-consuming, but also incredibly rewarding. You're constantly challenged, but in the best way—working on engaging projects, often in collaboration with course mates, which makes the learning process both productive and fun.
Outside of the classroom, there's always something going on—whether it's a trip to the archipelago, a student party, or simply hanging out with friends. The past year has been one of the most eventful and enriching periods of my life. It's been intense, but in the most positive sense. Time is truly flying by!
What do you want to do after graduating?
After graduating, I'd like to return to the automotive industry. My goal is to take on a role where I can contribute to making transportation more sustainable and help shape the future of mobility. Being part of the global transition toward zero-emission vehicles would be incredibly exciting and meaningful to me. With the knowledge and skills I've gained during my bachelor's and now through my master's at KTH, I feel well prepared and motivated to take that next step.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master's studies?
Just do it! KTH is a fantastic place to pursue your master’s degree. As a QS Top 100 university, it’s highly regarded in engineering and offers great flexibility to tailor your studies to your own interests. You'll quickly make friends—both international and Swedish—and feel part of a vibrant student community. A degree in Vehicle Engineering from KTH opens up excellent career opportunities, whether you want to work in Sweden or anywhere else in the world. I hope to see you on campus soon!
