Researcher in synthetic biology for creating H2 metabolism in bacteria

School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Job description

The purpose of this project is to create industrially relevant bacterial strains that can use green hydrogen and CO2 to produce renewable chemicals. In the project, photosynthetic cyanobacterial strains will be modified with hydrogenases to introduce the ability to grow on hydrogen. Mutant strains will then be optimized for growth on hydrogen through adaptive laboratory evolution. Changes in the bacteria will be analyzed through sequencing and proteomics infrastructure available in-house. The results will be used to gain a deeper understanding of the metabolism of cyanobacteria and to compare photosynthetic and heterotrophic production of chemicals. The project is in its early stages within a newly established research group, and the applicant will have a significant degree of independence in how the project is conducted and further developed.
