Abstract

\(\mathrm{F}_o\mathrm{F}_1\)-ATP synthase is responsible for synthesizing the energy currency of cells for all organisms. \(\mathrm{F}_1\) part of this protein is a rotary molecular motor that can convert chemical energy to mechanical work of rotation with the presence of fluctuations, and molecular heterogeneity. Some recent studies showed that stochastic nature at the nano-scale could play a constructive role in molecular functions. The aim of this study is to explore how fluctuation and heterogeneity are utilized to assist molecular functions by implementing statistical analysis, model inference, and stochastic dynamical studies. In order to extract the statistics of waiting time and angular fluctuations of catalytic dwells, model-free change point and clustering analysis are implemented to angular traces of \(\mathrm{F}_1\) time series of different species. After that, a reaction-diffusion model will be used to rationalize the results of time series analysis and give theoretical explanations for chemomechanical couplings between the catalytic reactions and rotary fluctuations.
