Louis Hainaut: The notion of polynomial functors

Abstract

In real analysis, the polynomials play a special role, since they form a class of functions with simple properties that can be used to study more general functions via Taylor-McLauren approximations. I will discuss two definitions of polynomial functors between categories, which are modeled after some properties of polynomials, and I will illustrate these definitions with examples from algebraic topology.
