Abstract.

I will give an introduction to anabelian geometry. In my first talk, I will speak about anabelian variety in general terms and try to introduce various sorts of anabelian conjectures, give some examples of varieties which are known to be anabelian, and some which are not. We will see that being anabelian puts strong restrictions on the variety.

This talk serves as a preparation for later talks, where we will discuss the Neukirch—Uchida theorem, as well as Tamagawa’s work on hyperbolic curves over finite fields.
