Description

The second part of the seminar on the Kervaire invariant one problem will run this semester. This is a famous problem in algebraic topology, that has been solved by Mike Hill, Mike Hopkins and Douglas Ravenel around 10 years ago. Their proof uses many modern and interesting techniques from equivariant stable homotopy theory. Some of the historical background of this problem was treated before the summer break, and we will now start working on the solution this problem by Hill, Hopkins and Ravenel. The aim of this reading course is to first treat some foundational material on (equivariant) stable homotopy theory (in the setting of orthogonal spectra), and then work through the main material in the Hill-Hopkins-Ravenel paper.

PhD students can receive credits (7.5 ECTS) for actively participating in the seminar. Actively participating means that they will give two talks during the seminar. More information can be found the homepage  and in the syllabus .
