Abstract

Gauge invariant quantities play a fundamental role in the analysis of the linearized Einstein equations. After reviewing some classical results in black hole perturbation theory, we present a complete set of local gauge invariants for the Kerr geometry. The proof of completeness is based on the construction of a compatibility complex for the Killing operator. This is joint work with Lars Andersson, Thomas Bäckdahl, Igor Khavkine and Bernard Whiting.
