Thomas Blom: Pre-colloquium on invariants of rings and homotopy theory

There are many common constructions, such as algebraic K-theory and Hochschild homology, that take as input a ring and that output a sequence of abelian groups. Such invariants may carry deep arithmetic information about the ring itself. In this talk, I will introduce a few of such construction, including algebraic K-theory and (topological) Hochschild homology, with a focus on how topology (or more precisely, homotopy theory) naturally comes into play when studying these invariants.
This is a pre-colloquium targeted towards master and PhD students as a preparation for Thomas Nikolaus colloquium talk at 15:15.
