Researchers in the Swedish group are spread across a great many disciplines, but to a large extent work beyond traditional disciplinary limits; the opportunities for geographical and cultural exchange, as well cross-disciplinary discourse and research collaboration, are greatly enhanced via the mechanisms and projects enabled by NIES. Many of the Swedish researchers work with aspects of sustainable development, and a great many of them are connected to interdisciplinary arenas in Sweden. The ambition of the group is to pull together scholars from diverse fields around issues of common interest and sometimes contrasting expertise. The interdisciplinary Cemus Research Forum (Cefo) at Uppsala University is one valuable channel for conducting this work; the history of technology division at KTH is another. Both enhance the effectiveness of NIES’s ongoing interdisciplinary work. Research fields represented in this group include: Scandinavian Literature, Cultural Anthropology, Literary Studies, Religious Studies, Systems Ecology, American Studies, Ecocriticism / Literature and Environment Studies, History of Ideas, Environmental History, Comparative Literature, Environmental Sociology, Environmental Ethics / Justice, German Literature, American Literature, Media and Communication Studies, Archaeology, American Studies, Urban Studies, Sociology, Gender Studies, Curriculum Studies, Human / Cultural Geography, Cultural Anthropology, History of Science, and Landscape Studies.
