About me

Dr. Christopher Peters is an Associate Professor (Docent) and director of the Embodied Social Agents Lab (ESAL) at the Department of Computational Science and Technology (CST). He obtained his PhD from Trinity College Dublin in 2004 and is a member of the SRA ICT-The Next Generation, a platform for the recruitment of talented faculty at KTH.

His research interests include the investigation of interrelationships between computational visual attention, affect, memory, theory of mind and gaze control models for real-time control, perception of, and multimodal interaction with humanoid agents, groups and crowds in urban and other spatial contexts. These works cross the domains of virtual characters, physical social/mobile robots and computer graphics/virtual reality.

To this end, he has participated in numerous national and international projects, including the EU FP6 Network of Excellence HUMAINE (€4.95M), EU FP6 Focused Research Project CALLAS (€9.5M) and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded METROPOLIS (€2.5M). He was the PI for KTH in the EU Horizon 2020 Innovation project ProsocialLearn (€4.2M), and is the PI for KTH in the ongoing EU Horizon 2020 MSCA Innovative Training Networks ANIMATAS (€3.9M) and CLIPE (€4M).

Deep-learning in virtual reality for effective human-robot group collaboration

Principal Investigator for a four year, 4 MSEK (~€380k) Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) project on applications of virtual reality to designing and evaluating aspects of real world interactions.

CLIPE

Principal Investigator for KTH with Jonas Beskow and secondment coordinator in the four year €4M EU Horizon 2020 Innovative Training Network CLIPE: Creative Lively Interactive Populated Environments.

Climate smart planning with digital transportation performance certificates

Co-Principal Investigator on a three year, 4.5 MSEK (~€430k) Swedish Energy Agency project with Todor Stojanovski and Rebakah Cupitt on digital transport research and tools related to procedural content generation and virtual reality.

ANIMATAS 

Principal Investigator for KTH and training coordinator in the four year €3.9m EU Horizon 2020 Innovative Training Network ANIMATAS: Advancing intuitive human-machine interaction with human-like social capabilities for education in schools.

IVA 2017

General co-chair, Intelligent Virtual Agents (IVA) conference that took place at KTH, Stockholm in August 2017 after taking place the previous year at the University of Southern California's Institute for Creative Technologies.

VIRTUALROBOT

Co-Principal Investigator on a three year, 4.5 MSEK (~€430k) SRA ICT TNG project with Gabriel Skantze exploring situated interaction with social robots using mixed reality.

Principal Investigator for KTH in the three year €4.2m EU Horizon 2020 Innovation project ProsocialLearn, concerning prosocial scenarios involving virtual characters for positive learning experiences using computer game technologies.

STEAM

Co-Principal Investigator with Johan Hoffman on 118 KSEK pedagogy grant on the application of computer game technologies and activity-led learning for engaging computer science students in mathematics, programming, numerical methods and simulation.

SIGRAD 2015
