The course covers the basic physics and principles of operation of photonic components such as resonators, lasers, waveguides, optical fibres, modulators and nonlinear optical devices, with an outlook to their applications in optical communications and opto-electronics. At the end of the course, students should be able to formulate, solve and discuss practical and theoretical problems in those fields with the help of the literature.
The first lecture is at 1 pm on Tuesday, 15th of January in lecture room FD41 (see also schema). The course is taught in English.
